Luton Town manager Matt Bloomfield has acknowledged the possibility of player departures during the current transfer window, suggesting that any exit including that of Zimbabwean midfielder Marvelous Nakamba must be guided by mutual respect and financial prudence.
Speaking to reporters, Bloomfield noted the realities of football economics, particularly in the aftermath of Luton’s consecutive relegations, which have placed significant pressure on the club’s wage structure.
“I don’t want to lose any players, but if the price is right, the player desires to leave, and it benefits the football club that’s the reality of football management,” said Bloomfield.
Nakamba, 30, who reportedly earns around £1.56 million per year, is among the club’s highest earners. His absence from Luton’s ongoing pre-season fixtures has raised speculation regarding his future at Kenilworth Road.
While no formal offers have been confirmed, club insiders suggest Luton may be open to offloading higher-wage players to streamline their budget ahead of another campaign in the lower tiers.
Nakamba joined Luton on a permanent deal from Aston Villa in 2023 after a successful loan stint that helped guide the club into the Premier League. However, injuries and form issues limited his impact during their brief top-flight stay.
