Zimbabwe’s former Paralympic gold medalist, Elliot Mujaji, has made an emotional public appeal for assistance, revealing that life has been extremely difficult since the closure of Shabanie Mine in 2007, where he was employed after his historic sporting career.
Mujaji, who made history by winning gold medals at both the 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Paralympic Games, says he has been struggling to survive and take care of his family since losing his job nearly two decades ago.
Advocates are urging authorities to create long-term welfare programs for retired athletes, especially those who achieved international success under difficult circumstances.
