Prominent lawyer Fadzayi Mahere has launched legal action against Youth Empowerment Minister Tinoda Machakaire, following his defamation allegations against her.
Mahere, through her legal team at Diza Attorneys, has filed a lawsuit contesting Machakaire’s claims and asserting that his threats of legal action were baseless and intended to intimidate her into silence.
In her court filing, Mahere argues that her public remarks which posed questions to Minister Machakaire regarding issues of public concern were made lawfully and in the interest of transparency and democratic accountability. Her legal team insists these statements were not defamatory but were protected under constitutional rights to freedom of expression.
“Ms. Mahere will not be bullied into silence for demanding accountability from public officials,” said a spokesperson from Diza Attorneys. “This lawsuit is about protecting the right of every Zimbabwean to ask questions without fear of retaliation.”
