A recent threat was made by a ZANU PF hardliner to bomb the house of Themba Gorimbo, a prominent Zimbabwean political figure and professional mixed martial artist competing in the UFC. This alarming threat underscores escalating political tensions in Zimbabwe.
The threat to bomb Themba Gorimbo’s house was made by a self-proclaimed ZANU PF online activist known as Cde Walle.
Themba Gorimbo, born in Bikita, Zimbabwe, is not only known for his career in the Ultimate Fighting Championship but also for his growing involvement in political and social issues back home. The threat against his residence signals a troubling climate where political dissent or prominence can provoke violent intimidation tactics by hardline elements within the ruling party.
This incident reflects the increasingly hostile environment for political figures who challenge or are perceived as opposing certain factions within Zimbabwe’s political landscape, highlighting the risks faced by those in the public eye advocating for change or holding influence. The threat to bomb Gorimbo’s house is a stark example of rising political tensions and the use of intimidation to silence or destabilize opponents.
The threat against Themba Gorimbo was made by a self-proclaimed ZANU PF online activist known as Cde Walle. In a social media post, Cde Walle said:
“Ini Zanu ikandipa ma resources nemari dzacho, I can volunteer kunoputitsa imba ya Themba Gorimbo — petrol bomb pamba pake ku New York ikoko chero mangwana,”
which translates to: “If Zanu gives me resources and funding, I can volunteer to bomb Themba Gorimbo’s house in New York — even tomorrow.”
He followed this with a menacing analogy implying that Gorimbo would eventually return to Zimbabwe and face further harm. The threat came after Gorimbo publicly criticized the ruling party’s leadership, accusing it of negatively impacting ordinary Zimbabweans.
This chilling threat was posted openly on social media and has raised serious concerns about political intimidation and violence directed at prominent critics of the government.
