Former Zanu-PF Politburo member and ex-Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo has warned that money can’t buy love or power, amid growing speculation over the rising political ambitions of wealthy businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei.
Taking to social media, Moyo wrote “#Politics101: Despite money’s alluring influence… there are two important human aspirations… that money cannot buy: LOVE and POWER!”
Moyo’s comments, widely interpreted as a veiled rebuke of Tagwirei, come as internal Zanu-PF tensions rise over the billionaire’s expanding influence and suspected presidential ambitions. Though Tagwirei has not formally declared his political intentions, his vast economic footprint and close ties to President Mnangagwa have stirred debate within the ruling party.
The warning echoes recent statements from Women Affairs Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, who decried attempts by party members to “buy their way to leadership.”
Moyo, now a frequent political commentator in exile, underscored the point that legitimacy in leadership cannot be acquired through wealth alone a timely reminder as Zanu-PF’s succession dynamics become increasingly contested.
