The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has issued a strong condemnation following the kidnapping and brutal assault of young journalist Takudzwa Gift Washaya.

The incident, reportedly linked to false political accusations, underscores the ongoing threats faced by journalists in the region.

According to CCC’s statement on Twitter, Washaya was forcibly taken from his home in Sunningdale, Harare, by armed men traveling in a black Toyota GD6.

The assailants subjected him to a severe beating, injected him with an unknown substance, and left him with serious injuries. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of media professionals and the growing risks they face in the line of duty.

CCC emphasized that journalists play a vital role in fostering transparency and holding those in power accountable. “We strongly condemn this behavior,” the party tweeted. “Journalists must be protected, not targeted for doing their job.”
