The reputation of Harare’s leadership was recently called into question after a social media user publicly ridiculed Mayor Jacob Mafume for alleged littering.
A tweet that has since gone viral questioned the city’s cleanliness and the Mayor’s role in setting an example.
The tweet, which read, “How can Harare be clean when the Mayor @JMafume does not know that he should place this stuff in a bin?” accompanied a photo of the Mayor sitting and underneath him there is litter.
The message sparked a flurry of reactions from residents and online commentators, many of whom expressed disappointment over the Harare council stating that they were just corrupt and clueless.
