The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has summoned the Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) board to provide clarity regarding troubling allegations against its officials.

This inquiry comes in response to a leaked audio recording featuring newly elected ZRU president, Losson Mtongwiza, making inflammatory statements about the financial challenges faced by the national women’s rugby team, the Lady Sables.

The audio, which has circulated widely on social media, captures Mtongwiza’s candid remarks directed at the Lady Sables, revealing a stark discontent with their expectations for match fees.

“If you are here to be paid, don’t come again! We’re not here to pay people. If we don’t have money, we don’t owe you anything!” he is heard stating.

These comments have sparked outrage among players, supporters, and advocates for women’s sports, leading to calls for accountability within the ZRU.
