In a recent Twitter post, opposition activist Makomborero Haruzivishe has shed light on the controversial processes behind the Citizens’ Choice Initiative (CISP) within the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).
Haruzivishe asserts that CISP has been exploited to impose candidates based more on their financial contributions than their merit or loyalty to the party’s grassroots supporters.
In his detailed commentary, Haruzivishe highlights how certain candidates, like Hon. Zivai Mhetu and Hon.
Bridget Nyandoro, have maneuvered their way into positions of power through financial transactions, undermining the democratic process that should dictate candidate selection.
He contrasts this with earlier methods that prioritized public support and legitimacy, emphasizing a troubling shift towards a system where monetary influence supersedes democratic ideals.
Haruzivishe calls into question the integrity of candidates who secured their nominations through financial means, arguing that the CISP has produced a mix of capable and questionable politicians, akin to the erratic outputs of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).
With allegations of favoritism and an opaque selection process, he urges the CCC to re-evaluate its candidate nomination methods to restore trust and accountability among its supporters.
