In a move that could significantly alter Zimbabwe’s political trajectory, influential businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei is reportedly being groomed for the Vice Presidency, potentially replacing embattled Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.
This development comes as speculation intensifies over President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s successor.
Tagwirei, a close ally of Mnangagwa, has been quietly gaining traction within Zanu PF structures, with sources suggesting he is being fast-tracked for a top leadership position.
His anticipated elevation follows a request by the Zanu PF Masvingo provincial executive for his appointment to the Central Committee, a strategic move to solidify his footing within the party hierarchy.
According to Robson Mavhenyengwa, Zanu PF Masvingo provincial chairperson, Tagwirei’s inclusion in the Central Committee is a nod to his contributions to the party and the nation.
“We have written to the national leadership requesting the inclusion of Kuda Tagwirei and Josiah Sithole in the Central Committee. Both are sons of Masvingo province, and we believe they will contribute significantly to the party’s efforts,” Mavhenyengwa confirmed.
Tagwirei’s rise to prominence is largely attributed to his strong ties with the ruling elite and his significant financial resources, which have been instrumental in funding various Zanu PF activities.
This has however led to an outburst with some stating that he can not use money to rise into power.
