
In a historic moment for the Olympic movement, Minister of Sports Kirsty Coventry has been elected as the first female and African President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
At just 41, she is also the youngest president in the IOC’s history.
Coventry, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, has been a member of the IOC since 2013.
Her election marks a significant milestone for women’s sports and Africa, and is seen as a major step forward for the Olympic movement.
She emerged victorious at the first round voting.
