Nick Mangwana, the government spokesperson, pointed out that the presence of retail shops and business growth are indicators of a thriving economy.

“When you see retail shops popping up everywhere, it’s a sign that the economy is surging,” he tweeted, emphasizing consumer spending, job creation, and business expansion as positive signs.

Prominent journalist, Hopewell Chinono questioned the credibility of claims regarding an economic boom in the country, especially in light of the closure of 30 Choppies supermarkets.

Chin’ono raised concerns about the high inflation rate, currently one of the highest in the world, and the stark reality of 95% unemployment, suggesting that these factors contradict the notion of an economic boom.

“Zimbaweans are fleeing every day due to economic suffering. Do you call that an economic boom?” he challenged.
