In a heartfelt message to the citizens of South Sudan, Lily Adhiambo Martin Manyiel, the Press Secretary of the Office of the President, urged calm and restraint following the recent tragic events involving the loss of innocent lives.
The statement comes in the wake of rising tensions and violence affecting communities in the region.
“On behalf of His Excellency, President Salva Kiir Mayardit, we are deeply distressed and saddened by the recent barbaric killings of innocent South Sudanese civilians by armed groups,” Manyiel stated.
The appeal emphasizes the need for unity and peace in a nation still grappling with the aftermath of conflict.
In light of the ongoing violence, the press secretary called on citizens to exercise restraint and to engage in peaceful dialogue to address the underlying issues. “Let us stand united as a people, demonstrating the strength and resilience that defines us, and avoid actions that could escalate tensions further,” she underscored.
The statement also reassures citizens that the government is taking the necessary steps to address the crisis, including summoning the Sudanese Ambassador to Juba for diplomatic consultations regarding the recent killings. “We are committed to holding accountable those responsible under international law,” Manyiel added.
