A group of Zimbabweans who are detailed in Sierra Leonne are suspected to be fighters. This has resulted in the Sierra Leon government refusing to release them.
The Zimbabwe government has asked the local media not to name the released Zimbabweans with seven having arrived home last week.
A group of over 40 Zimbabweans were lured to Sierra Leone with promises of well-paying jobs but were instead exploited and stranded.
Recently, 13 military personnel who were recently court-martialed in Sierra Leone were found guilty of various charges related to a failed coup attempt in November 2023. The court handed down sentences ranging from 50 to 120 years in prison.
