Prominent Zimbwean activist, William Chinyanga, is set to be released from a UK prison in December. William Chinyanga is currently serving a jail sentence of 4 years for a comments he made in a Facebook Live hosting of a debate between Zimbabwean MDC and ZANU PF parties. This was in 2018 .
Chinyanga is now appealing for about $10 000 to cover legal costs.
The GoFundMe reads:
Chinyanga was arrested in 2016 after an inflammatory outburst made in an on-line meeting when goaded by ZANU-PF members who boasted that they can eliminate anyone who opposes the ruling party.
William is due for release in December 2024 and the Home Office have notified him of their intention to deport him to Zimbabwe. This would be extremely dangerous for him as the human rights abuses there are well known and have been documented by many (e.g. Amnesty International).
This petition is an appeal to all people of good will to help stop William’s
deportation. Our target is to raise £10,000 for the cost of Lawyers toward stopping his
deportation in the courts. Every contribution, large or small, can help us do this. Let’s not let William suffer for human rights Activism.
