Popular Zimbabwean musician, Greatman Gwaze, has told Gambakwe Media in an exclusive interview that it was very difficult for him to break into the limelight. This all ended at the end of 2017 when he met Suluman Chimbetu in Mhangura who saw him performing and took his number.

Born Tongai Gwaze, on 24 June 1993, Greatman went to Jairosi Jiri and both of his parents passed away when he was still young. He grew up in Mashonaland West, Chinhoyi with his grandmother. he did his primary school at Jairosi Jiri in Southerton.

His first album was released in 2017, Chigara Muno.

Key Points from the discussion

  1. Tapiwa Jera worked with him on a song Pandakazvarwa which was a hit, the song featured Suluman on the album Cheziya.
  2. In 2019, he produced only singles tracks Gegede, then Dohwe Rakanuna, Zvakadzikisirwa and then Kuita Kwavo with Mathias Mhere.
  3. I face a number of challenges such as piracy, being used by promoters and difficulties getting on the stage where he needs to be carried by people on and off the stage.
  4. Promoters often refuse to pay a fair amount with the attitude that he is disabled.
  5. Sometimes able bodied artists are paid more for the same event.
  6. Jah Prayzah is my inspiration. In 2010 that is when I wrote my first song after I listened to the song Sungano by Jah Prayzah.
  7. Jah Prayzah came from Uzumba, if you look at every artist they came from somewhere. There is no artist who underachieves if they persist.
