Advocate Thabani Mpofu has petitioned Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) commander Lt. Gen. Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe to retract statements made at a ZANU PF rally, threatening civilians to support the party.

Mpofu argues that Sanyatwe’s comments violated the Constitution, Defence Act, and Electoral Act. He demands an unequivocal withdrawal within seven days, failing which legal action will be pursued.

Sanyatwe’s statements sparked outrage, marking the first time a ZNA commander has publicly taken a partisan stance.
