Presidential spokesperson George Charamba hosted gospel musician Baba Eliot Manyeruke at his office in Harare yesterday.
Taking to X, Charamba said Manyeruke paid him a surprise visit in the company of three other artists.
He said:
NHASI KWASEKWA VEDUWEE!!!!! I had a surprise visit from Baba Manyeruke at the Office, in the company of three other comrades – all of them artists in their own right. I have never had a more jovial time in a long time. It was pearls of laughter all the way.
Of course sad moments too as we remembered late musicians, key among them Mukoma Diva Mafunga, Cde Chinx, Cde Simon Chimbetu, Cde Andy Brown, Baba Mtukudzi, Baba naAmai Manatsa. I persuaded Baba Manyeruke to announce his retirement on stage, and not in a newspaper as if he ever lived between sheets of news! He agreed, reassuring me he is merely slowing down, and not hanging his guitar for good.
Thank you Baba; I hope my attempt at singing NDO FARA/NDO FARA MWARI WEE/NDOFARA, NDAVE KUNAMATA/HALLELUA NDAVE KUFARA INI/NEKUTI NDAVE KUNAMATA! was not too harsh to your ears!!Let Him continue to look after you, the One above!!!!
