EFF leader Julius Malema loses bid to have firearms charges dropped

The East London Magistrate’s Court has denied Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema’s application to have his firearm charges case struck off the roll.

Malema and his co-accused Adriaan Snyman handed their application to have charges related to violating the Firearms Act withdrawn.

Magistrate Twanett Olivier dismissed the two accused’s application due to lack of evidence.

Malema and his bodyguard, Snyman, are charged with a shooting incident that took place on 28 July 2018 at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane, during the EFF’s fifth birthday celebrations.

The trial has been moved to 15 July 2024.
