South Africa eletricity minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says Eskom is set to receive an additional 1,000 megawatts of gas-fired energy from Mozambique.

Ramokgopa hosted Mozambique’s Mineral Resources Minister, Carlos Zacarias, in Pretoria yesterday, to acquire additional power generation.

The move is aimed at mitigating the power shortages affecting SA, enabling Eskom to reduce load-shedding by one stage.

SA faces a substantial electricity deficit of 6,000MW, which has necessitated the implementation of up to Stage 6 rotational load shedding.
