The hero of the Mutare accident Sirizani Batau has revealed that he is being haunted by the Chistmas eve accident.

The truck driver who made headlines after saving lives following a head-on collision that saw a fuel tanker burst into flames near Mutare on Christmas is recuperating at Kadoma hospital.

“I am still in shock, I still need time to heal my body sometimes my body shakes and I sometimes see the visions. I am suffering more psychologically, for the bills I am grateful to the nation. I was accepted here at Queen Mary Hospital. When I went to Harare for assessment, Mars offered an ambulance I am thankful.”

Doctors estimate that Butau might take up to three months to fully recover.

“Our hero is doing very well we are looking after him nicely, he is going to heal and it’s not going to leave any scars last week we went to Harare for assessment and they said there was no need for grafting, as you know he got 30 percent burns so he needs a maximum of three months to fully recover.”

Support has also been coming from various quarters.

“We are here as the civil protection committee, with a donation which was handed over to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services by an organisation known as Believe foundation. It is our wish to have more organisations emulate this good gesture.”
