In a shocking turn of events, South African Defence Minister, Nosiviwe Maphisa Nqakhula, has denied that there was an attempted insurrection in South Africa, directly contradicting President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Maphisa Nqakhula said the events of last week do not support the existence of coup or insurrection as there were no visible leaders of such an insurrection.

In response, Acting minister in the presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshaveni, said during a press briefing that the government position is that there was an attempted insurrection.
