Zimbabwe Airport Workers have fled their workstations!

Last night the Zimbabwe Revenue and Allied Workers Trade Union (ZIMTARU) downed tools at Robert Gabriel Mugabe international airport due to the government’s lack of preparedness to mitigate the spread of Covid-19, putting the lives of workers at risk.

In a press statement on Tuesday, L Ngwaru of ZIMTARU said there is high exposure of all staff at the Robert Mugabe airport due to lack of proper gap facilities to mitigate the possible spread of the deadly virus.

“Workers shall not report for duty until proper measures are taken to substantially mitigate the danger”, read the statement

This comes after the now deceased Zororo Makamba who succumbed to Covid-19 passed through the airport and was served by ZIMRA workers exposing them to the virus.

“It is on this background that all ZIMRA workers station at the Robert Mugabe airport are invoking section 104 (4)a of the labour Act Chapter 28:01 with immediate effect”, read the statement.

Workers have not had any testing for quarantine which is posing as a grave danger to the workers and everyone they come in contact with.
