The former MDC Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora urged Zimbabweans to resist resolution by Cabinet to initiate amendments on the constitution stating that its a long march backwards.

Mwonzora said the amendments are targeted towards hindering democracy in Zimbabwe and citizens must resist it.

“The current constitution represents an incremental gain in Zimbabwe’s democratisation agenda.

We have to resist these selfish amendments,” said Mwonzora.

He added that the initiative is focused on removing the presidential running mate clause and allow the president to single handedly pick the Prosecutor General without the involvement of parliament.

Mwonzora said the Cabinet plans to amend the devolution clauses which delegates power to local authorities.

Citizens are expressing their disapproval to the development stating that its retrogressive, a movement back to autocracy in which the president has too much power.
