Corruption Case (Emfuleni Municipality)

  • Former fleet manager Lerato Mpholo (42) was arrested for a tender scam.

  • He appeared in court in Vanderbijlpark.

  • Accountant Martha Rantsou had flagged the deal in March, then was murdered in April—police say the tender fraud is linked to what she reported.

  • Mpholo signed for 18 vehicles, but only 7 trucks were delivered (some had problems). His assistant signed for all, even though 11 never arrived.

  • The municipality lost over R16 million:

    • R8.76 million for undelivered trucks.

    • R2.85 million overpaid for graders.

    • R1.8 million for failed warranty/service packages on graders.

  • Four missing vehicles were found registered to other companies.
