The Zimbabwean government has issued a call to the private sector to become key partners in the nation’s infrastructure development. This initiative encourages structured partnerships for contracting and maintenance arrangements, innovative financing models, and technical support, particularly within the transport sector.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Advocate Felix Mhona emphasized that the transport sector is not merely about moving goods and people, but serves as the backbone of strategic planning for the effective delivery of the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2). He highlighted the government’s firm belief in the crucial role the private sector plays in this transformation, advocating for a shift from isolated projects to integrated transport programs.
Current initiatives under the Ministry include the completion of the Harare-Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway project by year-end, rehabilitation of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road, and construction and rehabilitation of the Harare-Chirundu Road project. Modernization of border posts (Forbes, Chirundu, Nyamapanda, and Plumtree) and the construction of interchanges along major road corridors are also part of the ambitious plan.
