Munyaradzi Kereke filed a formal complaint on 18 June 2026 against three Supreme Court judges (Chiweshe, Kudya, Uchena), alleging misconduct, bribery, and extortion. The complaint was filed after the same panel dismissed his rape appeal.
Limited Investigation: On 30 July 2026, the Chief Justice referred only Justice Chiweshe for investigation, clearing the other two judges.
Scope of Probe: The investigation was initially limited to four business/financial matters related to Kereke’s Supreme Court appeal (a car sale, a $4,000 cash request, company documents, and a gold-mining discussion).
Expanded Allegations: On 26 August 2026, the disciplinary committee added two new allegations against Chiweshe: the seizure of Kereke’s passport and improper conduct with Kereke’s two wives. The timeframe was also broadened.
Chiweshe’s Legal Challenge: Chiweshe filed an urgent High Court application on 4 September 2026 to stop the disciplinary hearing. He argues the committee exceeded its mandate and that the 7-day response period is unreasonable.
Current Status: The urgent court application is pending, and the disciplinary hearing scheduled for 9 September 2026 is legally challenged.
