Faith Zaba forced to apologise to helliate Rushwaya for reporting on the dismissal of Helliate Rushwaya.
Helliate Rushwaya has been fired (dismissed with immediate effect) from her position as chairperson of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) board. This occurred recently amid a major governance crisis at ZBC, triggered by a ministerial probe into the handling and accountability of approximately US$52 million in radio licence-fee revenue (largely from vehicle-linked fees introduced in recent years). The investigation highlighted serious issues, including:
Unprocedural appointments of senior staff
Unauthorised high salaries and perks (some executives allegedly over US$10,000/month)
Unapproved spending exceeding US$10 million in 2025
Potential procurement law breaches
Poor management of funds like the US$6 million ZIMDIGITAL allocation
Failure to share licence fees as required with other entities (e.g., Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe and Transmedia)
