
The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) and the Ruwodo family have announced the passing of Major General (Rtd) Richard Ruwodo (also referred to in some reports as Richard Ruwondo). He passed away on Tuesday, 7 July 2026, at Avenues Clinic in Harare. He was 72 years old.
MILITARY SERVICE AND CAREER
Major General (Rtd) Ruwodo had a long and distinguished career in the Zimbabwe National Army, serving for several decades. He rose through the ranks to become a Brigadier General and was promoted to Major General upon his retirement in August 2008. He was widely described as one of the ZNA’s most decorated retired senior officers.
