Guruve Security Crisis and Police Failure
The community of Guruve is currently living in extreme fear as a gang of more than seven individuals continues to terrorize the area from the local mountains. The gang has been linked to 10 murders in a single week, with victims including a six-month-old baby and an elderly woman. Most recently, a 14-year-old girl was kidnapped from her home and taken into the bushes.
Public anger has intensified following reports that the ZRP failed to effectively pursue the gang into their cave hideouts, despite having access to drones and canine units. Local ZANU-PF officials and counselors have also faced criticism for downplaying the threat, with some initially claiming only one person was involved despite survivor testimony of a large group. Mnangagwa’s representative apologized specifically for the release of seven suspects who were previously apprehended by a neighborhood watch but not properly processed by police.

Motsepe also signaled a major structural shift, announcing that AFCON will transition to a four-year cycle after the 2028 edition to better align with the international football calendar.
