Former Zimbabwe Deputy Minister of Finance Terence Mukupe was reportedly released from prison a few weeks ago, after serving his sentence for fuel smuggling.
Mukupe had been serving an effective three-year prison sentence since his conviction in November 2023 for a fraud scheme where he imported diesel but claimed it was water in transit to evade duty. His appeal against the conviction and sentence was dismissed by the Supreme Court in November 2024.
During his incarceration, Mukupe taught mathematics and finance-related subjects to other inmates at Khami Maximum Prison, where his classes achieved high pass rates.Â
