204

Munyaradzi Angero Savanhu—a Zimbabwean author who previously wrote a sympathetic biography of opposition activist Job Sikhala titled Footprints in the Chains (detailing Sikhala’s imprisonment and struggles) has appeared at the ZANU-PF rally organised by Tagwirei and has pledged to re-join ZANU-PF.

The NDWG has accused Savanhu of being “bought” by wealth and influence.

Munyaradzi Angero Savanhu’s main involvement with Job Sikhala has been as the author of his biography, Footprints in the Chains, which led to several book launches in mid-2025:

June 27, 2025: The initial launch event was set to take place in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Early July 2025: A subsequent launch event in Masvingo, Zimbabwe, was disrupted by alleged ZANU-PF supporters, leading to legal action for damages.

August 30, 2025: A successful, high-profile launch was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, at the African Centre for Governance.

Matlala, a controversial South African businessman currently detained at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre on charges including attempted murder, was set to testify before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee on police corruption and interference. On November 25, Matlala’s legal team requested a delay, citing inadequate preparation, mental health concerns due to prison conditions, and disorientation. They threatened an urgent court application if not accommodated by 3 PM that day. Ad Hoc Committee Chairperson Soviet Lekganyane rejected the request, confirming Matlala would testify as planned, starting Wednesday morning (November 26) from the prison facility. The Department of Correctional Services arranged logistics, including meals and security, for sessions potentially running through Friday. This makes Matlala the 13th witness. Earlier testimonies, including from former Police Minister Bheki Cele, have highlighted his alleged ties to police and political figures.
