Controversial Zimbabwean Businessman, Wicknell Chivayo, has signed the book of condolenses for the late former Kenyan Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.

My recent trip to Kenya, while successful on many fronts, was a time of mixed emotions. I was grateful for the opportunity to hold a productive meeting with the Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Hon Opiyo Wandanyi, and to pay respectful courtesy calls on both Her Excellency Mama Rachel Ruto and H.E. PRESIDENT WILLIAM RUTO. These engagements were vital and successful steps forward.

However, my visit coincided with a period of profound national mourning following the untimely passing of one of Africa’s most revered democracy stalwarts, the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga.

I was deeply humbled and honoured to be accorded the opportunity to sign the BOOK OF CONDOLENCES, expressing my deepest sympathies to the Odinga family, the First Family, and all our Kenyan brothers and sisters. Affectionately known as Baba, Odinga’s passing is a colossal loss felt far beyond Kenya’s borders, impacting the entire African continent.

Baba was a leading force behind Kenya’s foundational 2010 Constitution and consistently placed the nation above his personal interests. His vision was clear: a democratic Kenya founded upon good governance and administrative integrity. Though often in the opposition, Baba exhibited extraordinary political maturity. He was always willing to engage and dialogue with those perceived as political adversaries.

He was a shining example that the ordinary citizen must be the primary and ultimate beneficiary of political leadership, regardless of which party is in office. He reminded us that true relevance in leadership isn’t about demanding new leaders, but about working together across political lines to build a better and united future for our people. For his immense contributions, Baba rightly stands in the same league with Africa’s greatest visionaries such as Nelson Mandela, Julius Nyerere, and Kwame Nkrumah.

Baba, you ran your race, you fought a good fight. May your soul rest in eternal peace, and may your vision for a democratic, united, and prosperous Africa live on. 🕊️🇰🇪
