This video, titled “Mnangagwa To Step Down Before Returning For A Third Term – Ruwende” from the GAMBAKWE MEDIA channel, discusses an alleged plan for President Mnangagwa to secure a third term in office by temporarily stepping down.
The speaker outlines the steps of this alleged plan:
- A “Placeholder” President: The speaker suggests that President Mnangagwa will step down and appoint a “dummy president,” or a placeholder, similar to what was done by Vladimir Putin [00:00].
- Legalizing the Term Limit Change: While the placeholder is in office, a bill to remove or change the term limit will be introduced. It is claimed that Mnangagwa controls the Parliament with a near two-thirds majority [00:14], and the Senate would pass the bill with 40 votes [00:30].
- Judicial Approval: The bill will then go to Justice Malaba, who the speaker claims “owes Mnangagwa a favor” and will legalize the bill [00:38]. The placeholder president will be the one to sign the bill into law [00:47].
- The Return: Once the placeholder has signed the bill into action, they will give the seat back to Mnangagwa, who will then be able to remain in power for the next five to ten years [01:03]. The speaker emphasizes that this is a way to “legalize the whole process” by having it go through the right channels of Parliament, Senate, and the Judiciary [01:08].
The speaker argues that the motivation behind this move is self-protection [02:26]. ZANU-PF members, who the speaker claims are “protecting what they have accumulated over time,” fear that a new president, such as Chenjerai, would “arrest all corrupt leaders you want to arrest all the corrupt businessmen” [02:37]. Therefore, the continued stay in power is seen as a way to protect what they have “stolen” [03:00].
The speaker concludes by stating that 10 years is long enough for any president and that they do not want Mnangagwa to continue to 2030 [02:15].
