- ZEP Extension: The validity of Zimbabwean Exemption Permits (ZEP) has been extended until May 28, 2027.
- Immigration Advisory Board (IAB): The IAB was appointed on April 1, 2025, and has been deliberating on both immediate and long-term solutions for ZEP holders.
- Interim Measures: Pending the conclusion of consultations, existing ZEPs are deemed valid for an additional 18 months beyond their current expiry date of November 28, 2025.
- Protection from Arrest/Deportation: ZEP holders will not be arrested, ordered to depart, detained for deportation, or deported for not having a valid exemption certificate.
- Travel Permissions: ZEP holders are permitted to enter or depart from South Africa, provided they meet all other entry and departure requirements, except for not having a valid visa endorsed in their passport due to the exemption.
- Application for Other Visas: ZEP holders are not required to produce a valid exemption certificate, visa, or authorization letter to remain in the Republic when applying for any other category of temporary residence visa.
