4. Gary Bell, a convicted drug dealer, has had his appeal dismissed by the High Court in Bulawayo. This decision requires him to return to prison to serve his 12-month effective sentence. Justices Munamato Mutevedzi and Ngoni Nduna ruled that the magistrates’ court’s conviction was sound and that Bell’s claim of being framed was not supported by evidence. According to Justice Mutevedzi, the court found the appellant in possession of drugs beyond a reasonable doubt and his claim that the drugs were planted couldn’t be supported by any evidence.
Bell, 42, a well-known Bulawayo socialite, had been out on a US$500 bail since mid-August while he was challenging his conviction.

2. In South Africa, assets recently rallied, with the JSE closing at a record high and the rand strengthening to its best level in nearly a year. This surge was driven by corporate consolidation in the mining sector, a rally in precious metals, and dovish policy signals from major central banks.
The all-share index climbed 0.51% on a Friday, bringing its gains over the past year to nearly 30%. The rand, meanwhile, traded at R17.38/$. 2. On 14 September 2025 at around 18:00, a serious incident occurred on the M1 highway near Booysens Road in Johannesburg. A passenger on a bus had an altercation with the bus driver and grabbed the steering wheel. This caused the driver to lose control, and the bus veered off the M1 Southbound, crossed the barricades and median, entering the M1 Northbound lanes. There, it collided with six other vehicles in a multi-vehicle crash.
3. The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements has stated that the widely reported figure of a 1.4 million housing backlog is incorrect. According to MEC Tasneem Motara, the number is inflated by duplicate and ineligible names on the National Housing Needs Register. The actual backlog of approved beneficiaries on the Housing Subsidy System is about 293,000. Despite financial pressures, the province exceeded its housing delivery goals for 2024/25, building over 7,200 units and issuing 6,244 title deeds. The allocation of housing prioritizes long-waiting applicants, the elderly, people with disabilities, and military veterans.

July 14, 2025: A court orders Alexius Manyanda to stop physically and verbally abusing Nyasha Pamella Timba.
August 15, 2025: Manyanda is ordered to pay school fees, occupational and speech therapy fees, and registration fees for one of their children, totaling US1,100,andschoolfeesofUS1,945 for the third school term.
August 30, 2025: Manyanda is ordered to pay US$3,870 in school fees for their second child.
September 9, 2025: Manyanda allegedly physically assaulted Timba, pushing her and forcing his hand against her, while accusing her of recording him on her cellphone. He also allegedly threatened her life and verbally abused her over his failure to pay maintenance.
