After eight years on the run, Silindi Ncube, who shocked Bulawayo in 2017 when he allegedly murdered his sister Patience Ncube and buried her in the backyard of their Old Magwegwe home, has finally been arrested.
Silindi, who vanished soon after the gruesome discovery, returned to the scene of the crime on Thursday night, knocking on the family home’s door. Residents, however, refused to let him in. Police arrested him the following day.
In a chilling turn, Silindi was brought back to the house on Saturday, where he demonstrated to investigators how he murdered his sister and buried her body in a shallow pit an act that stunned the Magwegwe community back in 2017.
At the time, shocked relatives, including the siblings’ aunt Mrs. Mangisi Khumalo. Police exhumed Patience’s body from the backyard, where it was buried alongside her cellphone and passport, and onions had been planted over the grave to conceal it.
Neighbors recall the chilling moment Patience’s body was carried out of the yard, describing it as one of Magwegwe’s darkest days. Some also believe a second body could be hidden at the property, pointing to a separate concrete-covered pit. Although during his demonstration he confessed that the concrete covered pit was meant to divert residents from the actual grave.
While official police comment was not immediately available at the time of writing, residents confirmed the arrest and expressed relief that a fugitive story haunting the community for nearly a decade may finally be closing.
