Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe has clarified that Munhumutapa Day, which falls on Monday, September 15, will not be observed as a public holiday.

His remarks follow widespread speculation and debate suggesting that the commemorative day might be elevated to official holiday status.

“We have not been given that instruction. The day was never declared a holiday; should there be a proposal for the day to be a holiday, normal procedure will be followed. But it is a day set aside to remember Munhumutapa,” Minister Kazembe explained.

The announcement means that schools, businesses, and government institutions will operate as normal, despite growing calls from some individuals and groups for the day to be given formal recognition.

Government has maintained that any change of status for Munhumutapa Day would require a structured proposal and due consideration before approval.
