
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere has announced that Cabinet has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Zimbabwe and South Africa aimed at deepening cooperation in the field of social development.
Speaking at this week’s post-Cabinet briefing, Dr Muswere said the agreement demonstrates both countries’ commitment to improving the well-being of vulnerable groups while addressing some of the region’s most pressing social issues.
According to Dr Muswere, the MoU sets out a joint framework that prioritises ,Combating substance abuse through demand reduction, rehabilitation and psychosocial support, Enhancing community reintegration programmes for victims of drug and alcohol abuse, Strengthening social protection for vulnerable populations, particularly children, including those “on the move.”, Safeguarding children’s rights during emergencies, while also providing for alternative care and adoption.
Addressing the social dimensions of HIV and AIDS.
“The MoU seeks to create a structured platform for Zimbabwe and South Africa to collaborate on key social development issues, ensuring that interventions are both sustainable and people-centred,” Dr Muswere said.
He emphasised that by targeting interconnected challenges such as addiction, HIV, and child protection the two countries hope to build stronger support systems, reduce stigma and promote healthier, more resilient communities.
