Latest on Gweru fighter jet crash The late instructor squadron leader Chidyausiku who died yesterday in a fighter jet during the training at Josiah Magama Tongogara airbase in Gweru. The trainee is also reported to have died a few hours after the crash yesterday.

February 2025: A trainee pilot, Air Lieutenant Nesbert Tambudza, died when his K-8 jet trainer aircraft crashed during a solo training exercise near Guinea Fowl, Gweru. The accident happened about 5 km east of the town.
May 2025: A retired squadron leader, Ritswanetsi Vuyo Ncube, who had rejoined the military as a trainer, died when his Chengdu F-7 jet crashed in the Wazheri area of Gweru.
2023: Two pilots were killed when a military plane from Josiah Tungamirai Air Force Base (the new name for the base previously known as Gweru) crashed in Kwekwe.
2021: Two pilots died when an SF-260 Genet aircraft crashed during a routine training exercise in Somabula, near Gweru.
2014: An instructor pilot and a trainee were killed when their aircraft went down during a training sortie in the same area.
