Former Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi was allegedly lured into returning to Zimbabwe from his base in Zambia in what sources describe as a Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) sting operation.

According to Hopewell Chin’ono a plot was orchestrated by the CIO Director-General in collaboration with a former Member of Parliament.

Mzembi was reportedly led to believe that he was making a reconciliatory return  a “prodigal brother” forgiven by Emmerson Mnangagwa.

But those familiar with the operation say Mzembi walked straight into a trap.

“As Mugabe once said, ED does not forgive or forget,” one source remarked.

The operation allegedly targeted three exiled figures Walter Mzembi, Saviour Kasukuwere, and journalist Hopewell Chin’ono.

Ali Naka is said to have warned Chin’ono to avoid any meetings, advice which spared him. Mzembi, however, was not so fortunate.
