President Emmerson Mnangagwa has arrived in Rome for a high-profile bilateral meeting with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, at the Vatican today.

The meeting is expected to focus on strengthening ties between Zimbabwe and the Vatican, as well as discussions on areas of mutual interest, including humanitarian cooperation, peace, and development.

Mnangagwa’s visit underscores Zimbabwe’s efforts to broaden its international engagements and maintain dialogue with influential global religious and political leaders.

This marks the President’s first official encounter with Pope Leo XIV since his assumption of office, and observers say the meeting could pave the way for deeper collaboration between Zimbabwe and the Catholic Church, which has a long history of educational and social service work in the country.
