Zimbabwean lawyer and opposition figure Fadzayi Mahere has expressed sorrow following the death of South African journalist Tshidi Madia, describing her as a fearless and authentic voice in the media.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mahere wrote“I am very saddened to learn of the tragic passing of seasoned journalist @tshidi_lee. Never afraid to speak truth to power, her intellect and voice reverberated well beyond South Africa. Often a go-to when it came to political analysis in her jurisdiction and a balanced take on the lay of the land. Her rare mix of eloquence, courage and authenticity will be deeply missed. May her soul rest in peace.”

Madia, who was a respected political editor in South Africa, passed away on Wednesday morning after a short illness, her family confirmed. Tributes have poured in from colleagues, politicians, and fellow journalists who hailed her as a bold, principled voice in an era of shrinking press freedom.

Her death marks the loss of one of South Africa’s most trusted political analysts, whose work often shaped public debate well beyond her country’s borders.
