The Lungu family has made fresh demands after their loss at the constitutional court. The family will now be going back to the High Court to appeal at the Supreme Court of Appeal. The family specifically wants to have control over the burial and repatriation of the body and for President HH not to have any role at the funeral.
The Lungu family’s demands are as follows:
- They disagree with the high court’s judgment that a former president is considered government property under Zambian law and that the family has no say in the matter.
- The family wants to have a significant role in the decision-making process for the funeral arrangements.
- Stop the Weaponization of the Media.
- They want a dignified send-off for the former president that is free from mockery and reflects his and his family’s wishes.
- The family desires the government to play a supportive role and allow the family to define what a dignified send-off is.
- They are also concerned with rebuilding trust with the government, which they feel has been broken.
