Former Tourism Minister, Walter Mzembi has been denied bail by High Court Judge Justice Regis Dembure after citing concerns over his accountability and risk of flight.
The court said there is no guarantee that he will stand trial if released on bail.
Walter Mzembi is accused of unlawfully donating 16 State-owned television screens worth US$ 800k to churches without government authorization.
Additional he is being charged for misappropriating funds meant for the 2013 United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) General Assembly co-hosted by Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The court ruled that current circumstances do not justify his release from prison.
