Ugandan police have launched an urgent manhunt for a Kenyan cameraman accused of taking an unauthorized close-range photograph of President Yoweri Museveni, triggering serious national security concerns.

The image, which has since gone viral on social media, was allegedly taken during a recent public event. Authorities have not disclosed the name of the suspect but say the act represents a grave security lapse.

The motives behind the cameraman’s actions remain unclear. However, officials say the incident is being treated with the highest level of urgency to prevent similar future occurrences.

The 80-year-old Museveni, who has ruled Uganda since 1986 and is seeking a seventh term, maintains tight control over both security and media coverage.

His administration has frequently come under fire from civil society groups for its restrictive policies on press freedom and political dissent.
