Zimdancehall heavyweight Winky D has been nominated for Dancehall Artiste of the Year at the prestigious Global Music Awards Africa (GMAA), joining a star-studded lineup that includes Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Patoranking, and Burna Boy.
Also repping Zimbabwe is Minister Michael Mahendere, who is back to defend his Gospel Artiste of the Year title against continental greats like Mercy Chinwo, Tope Alabi, and Diana Hamilton.
The GMAA, now in its second edition, aims to celebrate and unite African artists while pushing the continent’s sound to global audiences.
The ceremony will be held in Lagos, Nigeria, following last year’s virtual debut in Accra due to COVID-19 restrictions.
With his nomination, Winky D becomes the third Zimbabwean artist to earn a spot in the continental showcase, following in the footsteps of Buffalo Souljah and Minister Mahendere himself.
