Award-winning journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has strongly condemned the behaviour of some attendees at Zimfest Live 2025, calling it a reflection of a deeply rooted mindset crisis among Zimbabweans.
This follows reports that the event’s organizers were slapped with a £3,000 clean-up bill after 15 piles of human waste were found on-site despite over 100 available toilets with no queues.
Chin’ono described the situation as a disturbing example of cultural decay, writing “The issue here is mindset. Zimbabweans need to change their mindset the same one that makes people throw litter from car windows, walk over raw sewage, urinate on buildings, and now this…”
He emphasized that national progress is being held back not just by politics, but by the social behaviours people accept and normalize.
“A nation is not destroyed by its enemies, but by the silence and applause of those who should know better when dignity is dragged through the dirt,” Chin’ono added.
