Prominent constitutional lawyer Thabani Mpofu has publicly challenged leaders and office bearers of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) following ZANU-PF’s unchallenged victory in the Chiredzi Ward 4 by-election.
In a strongly worded tweet, Mpofu questioned CCC’s absence from the ballot and demanded answers on their current political relevance. “If you oppose ZANU PF, what is your position on these by-elections?” he asked.
He further pressed them to clarify what tangible strategies they are employing to dismantle what he called ZANU-PF’s “corrupt rule,” especially if they are indeed boycotting elections due to a compromised electoral environment.
The official results from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission show ZANU-PF’s Phikelele Austin won with 1,577 votes against an independent candidate, Joseph Micheke, who garnered only 265. CCC was noticeably absent from the contest.
