This morning, I engaged with a dynamic cohort of CEOs from across the SADC region in a robust and forward-looking discussion. The meeting was not just a ceremonial gathering, but a strategic dialogue on how we, governments and the private sector can work together to build a more resilient and competitive Southern Africa.
We acknowledged that regional economic growth will not be achieved through government action alone. The private sector must be seen not just as a stakeholder, but as a full and equal partner in our development agenda. It is time we redefined the relationship between public institutions and private enterprise, not as transactional, but as deeply collaborative.
We discussed critical areas such as cross-border trade barriers, infrastructure development, youth employment, digital transformation, and sustainable energy.

Across all these areas, one message was clear: governments must create the enabling environment, and the private sector must take the lead in driving innovation and investment.
As President of Botswana, I reaffirm my commitment to championing a model of governance that is responsive to business realities and grounded in regional solidarity. Together, we can transform Southern Africa into a beacon of prosperity, driven by shared goals and mutual respect.
